Founded in 1955 in Montà d’Alba (CN) by Senator Luigi Burgo, INSIT has grown on the basis of a cork-processing company. Under the direction of its founder, new products were begun: floors made of wood bonded with cork, expanded cork for insulation, but above-all fabric coated cork gaskets for the automobile industry later replaced by gaskets made of cork rubber specially designed and fine tuned for use in new generation engines. In the Sixties the production of gaskets underwent a considerable evolutionary process changing from the previous cork gaskets to gaskets made of "Suberplast" a cork and synthetic rubber compound. In 1965 the company’s production consisted, in terms of half of its production, of cork rubber gaskets and the other half of heat and sound insulation made of cork. It was only in 1974 that I.N.S.I.T. S.p.A. began to produce rubber technical articles that were then to become, with the passing of the years, the true strength of the company. In the years between 1974 and 1981 the production of cork heat and sound insulation steadily decreased until it completely disappeared while the production of technical items made of pressed rubber increased and 1981 it over took the gaskets made of cork rubber in the sales figures. The years following 1981 were for INSIT years of considerable growth and technological innovation: between 1981 and 1985 INSIT collaborated with FIAT on the study and production of valve cover O-ring for the FIRE engine. In 1989, again in conjunction with FIAT, it designed the first homokinetic joint cover made of moulded thermoplastic elastomer moulded using inject-extrusion/blowing technology and at the beginning of the Nineties mass production began that would continue later for the customer GKN. In 1994 it received the "QUALITAS" award for FIAT Auto for the three-year period '92, '93, '94. In June 1997 INSIT obtained the certification of its Quality System in conformity with standard UNI EN ISO 9002:1994 and in conformity with the AVSQ'94 Automotive rules. In October of the same year it won the FIAT Auto “QUALITAS” for the second time. In 2001 new elastomer products using extrusion/blowing technology were developed, in particular hoses and protective bellows while production of rubber cork articles was discontinued all together. While awaiting to formaliste the production process through certification, INSIT began to train the figure of the head of research, design and development. In 2003 INSIT obtained the following certifications:
In 2009 INSIT achieve the OHSAS 18001 certification |
